The Algoma District Services Administration Board delivers social and paramedic services to 20 municipalities and the unorganized townships in the District of Algoma. Our Housing Services Department is seeking applications from qualified candidates for the full-time position of:

Technical Services Maintenance Assistant, Central Algoma (Thessalon)

This position works 40 hours per week and is a member of the Housing Services team, reporting to the Housing Services Maintenance Supervisor. The Technical Services Maintenance Assistant’s key responsibilities include:
– performing general building maintenance duties and repairs, under the direction of the Housing Services Maintenance Supervisor, at ADSAB housing properties primarily in the Central Algoma area, to maintain the good condition and safety of housing units, common areas, and grounds;
– performing routine and ad hoc site visits and inspections of ADSAB housing properties to assess conditions and identify maintenance and repair needs, and report and prioritize findings;
– occasionally performing maintenance-related duties for ADSAB corporate properties locations;
– record-keeping in maintenance tracking, asset planner, work and purchase order systems.

This job requires strong oral and written communication skills to interact effectively with tenants, co-workers and external vendors and contractors, and to prepare clear and detailed written reports, purchase order requests and e-mail communications. Math, measuring and analytical skills are required to calculate material estimates, measurements, angles and layouts. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications and the ability to record clear and accurate entries in asset planner and maintenance database systems are essential for this job. The Technical Services Maintenance Assistant requires the physical capacity to work at a medium level of exertion, to safely and effectively perform repair and maintenance-related tasks on a daily basis. The incumbent must also hold a minimum secondary school diploma, and have additional relevant education and/or experience related to general carpentry and property maintenance skills, and must demonstrate competency to maintain a safe living and working environment in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The Technical Services Maintenance Assistant requires general carpentry and building and grounds maintenance skills, as well as working knowledge of electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems. This job requires a valid Ontario driver’s license, a safe driving record, and the ability to travel to job sites on a daily basis.

We are seeking a candidate who demonstrates the professionalism and integrity required to represent ADSAB’s Housing Services Department in an effective and positive manner, and who can work with limited supervision to manage their time and workload, while efficiently coordinating tasks that impact tenants and the work of others.

The rate of pay for this full-time position ranges from $36.08 to $38.32 per hour and OMERS pension plan membership is effective with the date of hire. We offer competitive vacation entitlement, the option of a compressed work week program, and 13 paid holidays per year. Full-time Employees are eligible for our generous group benefits plan, and all premiums are 100% employer-paid. This is a bargaining unit position represented by CUPE Local 3631.
