Preamble

Waasseandimikaaning, Anishinabe Spiritual Centre (ASC), is a Catholic retreat, conference, Damigoong Bimiikaadwining (calling to service) centre, guidance of a Board of Directors. It is located just outside the town of Espanola, Ontario. The founding and principal mission is the formation for leadership of Indigenous Catholic men and women from the First Nations communities in the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie. ASC also offers programs in the general areas of youth/young adult, reconciliation, social justice, ecology and the care of our common home, Indigenous spirituality, Ignatian spirituality, and interreligious/intercultural dialogue. The Centre is also open to individuals coming for a personal retreat, and to groups who may wish to book the site to host their own programs.

Program Planning Intern– Anishinabe Spiritual Centre

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director – Anishinabe Spiritual Centre, and as, the Program Planning Intern will work in a collaborative and respectful manner with a team approach.  The Program Planning Intern will assist the Executive Director in the planning and executing of programs at the Anishinabe Spiritual Centre.  They will also offer support to other departments as needed.

Program Planning Intern Responsibilities: This list of responsibilities is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of all duties or responsibilities.

•       Manage all social media communications

•       Provide administrative and office support to the Executive Director

•       Research pricing, build contacts, follow up with associates for various programs as required

•       Prepare marketing materials such as pamphlets and signage  

•       Assist/attend special events and meetings

•       Gather materials for events, assist with set-up, clean up as needed

•       Attend meetings, take minutes and prepare for distribution

•       Assist with quarterly newsletter publication and distribution

•       Assist with reception duties including answering phone calls and forwarding accordingly, take messages/ welcome and direct visitors and those on retreat

Qualifications: 

·         Graduate from a recognized College and or University preferably within an Indigenous Studies Program

•       GED or equivalent

•       Experience working with the public

•       Excellent social media skills

•       Strong research skills

•       Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher,   Outlook and Canva

•       Office experience

•       Fluency in Anishinabemowin is an asset

•       Be willing to provide a CPIC with a Vulnerable Sector

•       Must have a Class G Ontario Driver’s License and access to a vehicle willing to travel

•       Must have $1,000,000. Automobile insurance

Skills required:

·         Experience in Indigenous Cultural practices and traditions

·         A self-starter, can work independently yet also work as a part of a team

·         Detail oriented, good planning skills

·         Excellent communication skills, organizational and problem-solving skills

·         Willingness to work flexible hours according to the needs of the Centre

·         Knowledgeable and respectful of Anishinabe customs, culture, tradition, practice and language

·         Knowledgeable and respectful of the Catholic faith and tradition

·         Motivated and energetic

This funder of this Internship (Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation) requires the following:

•       Candidate for this position must identify as an indigenous person, including First Nation, Metis or Inuit.

•       Candidate must be a new entrant into the workforce, are transitioning to a new career, or the unemployed or underemployed who are entering a new field.

•       Candidate must have not previously participated in an NOHFC funded internship in the 2020 Mandate.  

•       Candidate must be 18 years of age or older.

•       Candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

•       Once hired, the candidate must reside in the Northern Ontario community in which they are employed.
