SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Under the immediate supervision of the Director of Care, the Therapeutic Recreation Worker will play a lead role in facilitating the Responsive Behaviours Program in consultation with the inter-professional team, and will provide coaching and mentoring to front-line staff in the application of best practices in the care of individuals with responsive behaviours. He / She will provide guidance in developing client-centered group and individual programming in the areas of diversional activity, therapeutic adaptations, leisure education, with the goal of enabling residents to achieve quality of life and optimal health through meaningful participation in recreation and leisure.
SALARY: $24.66 per hour
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have Therapeutic Recreation degree and / or a post-secondary Therapeutic Recreation diploma.
Membership in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) and / or with Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association (CTRA)
P.I.E.C.E.STM and /or U_FIRST Certificate an asset.
Montessori Dementia Certificate an asset.
Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) basic training an asset.
Mental health First Aid an asset.
Positive Approaches to Care or similar programs an asset.
Demonstrated knowledge working with older adults with various forms of dementia.
Knowledge and understanding of all pertinent legislation and policies, including the Fixing Long Term Care Act, the Personal health Information and Protection Act (PHIPA 2004), the Mental Health Act and other pertinent legislation.
Demonstrated knowledge of clinical, social-behavioural, and fundamental biomedical sciences relevant to geriatric syndromes and geriatric practice.
Good organizational skills
Bilingual – Written & Spoken (French & English)
Good physical condition and able to perform the work on a continuous basis
