Claire Dimock Children’s Centre (CDCC) is a non-profit agency aspiring to provide exceptional quality care for children from birth to age 12. We are seeking passionate, patient, and enthusiastic ECE college students to join our team this summer!

CDCC’s vision is to continually improve and maintain a high level of excellence to meet and exceed our families’ needs and expectations. With a strong focus on family and community interaction, CDCC strives to provide an enriching program within safe, friendly, and relaxed indoor and outdoor environments.

This is a wonderful opportunity to gain meaningful, hands-on experience in a licensed child care setting while applying your college studies in a real-world environment. We strive to be a positive, supportive workplace and use clear communication, complete training and responsive relationships to empower our staff — including our summer students — to meet their professional goals.

Our programs are open Monday – Friday with hours between 7:30am and 5:30pm.

Role responsibilities:

·         Plan and implement activities and curriculum that meet the physical, emotional, cognitive, language and social needs of each individual child in our program, based on current research and recommendations from Ontario early childhood documents.

·         Include belonging, well-being, engagement and expression from the “How Does Learning Happen?” document in all interactions with children and families.

·         Ensure child/staff ratios are maintained at all times and that children are supervised at all times when at Claire Dimock Children’s Centre, as outlined in the Child Care and Early Years Act

·         Develop culturally appropriate activities and include families’ cultures within the program

·         Provide schedules for indoor and outdoor activities that promote holistic development for all children

·         Promote heathy eating habits during mealtimes, offer time for rest, and have awareness of all allergies, food restrictions and special diets.

·         Support and abide by the Vision, Mission Statement, Program Statement and Values of CDCC.

·         Understand and practice all requirements from the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice from the College of Early Childhood Educators

·         Maintain clear, professional communication when interacting with the children, families, other staff, students, volunteers and visitors

·         Be familiar with and follow all CDCC policies and procedures and emergency expectations

 

Qualified Candidates will have:

·         Early Childhood Education Diploma

·         Registration, in good standing, with the College of Early Childhood Educators

·         Practicum experience in a childcare setting gained through a post-secondary program (or equivalent)

·         Experience with children in a childcare or school setting

·         Thorough understanding of Child Development Theories and Practices and relevant Legislation

·         Knowledge in observations, pedagogical documentation and the ELECT document

·         Knowledge in cultural sensitivity and inclusion

·         Effective problem solving, organizational and time management skills

·         Respectful, patient and reliable personalities with team building and leadership skills

·         Current health assessment and up-to-date immunization record

·         Standard First Aid and CPR (level C) training

·         A clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check

·         Completed CCYEA self-test

·         WHIMIS training

·         Possession of a vehicle, valid Ontario Driver’s License and insurance
