Experienced Boat Captain

Cole-Munro is a family run grower and processor of fresh, locally sourced Ontario rainbow trout. As part of the
aquaculture industry, we grow farm raised rainbow trout in deep water net-pen sites in Lake Huron. Fresh
rainbow trout are then shipped to St. Thomas, ON to be processed, packaged and sold to your local grocery
stores.
We are looking for an experienced Boat Captain to work with our operations around Manitoulin Island. The
Captain should have experience operating a Twin-Engine Landing Craft and possess a Fishing Master IV/ 60 Tonne Limited Master or equivalent certificate. The Captain will work closely with the Farm Manager to coordinate vessel scheduling and operations, ensuring that all activities are conducted safely and efficiently.
Daily responsibilities will include operating the vessel in waters near Little Current and the Wabuno Channel (from early May to December) where you will return to port daily. The Captain must be able to work in adverse weather conditions such as high winds and fog, transporting the vessel to different aquaculture farms sites. The Captain will manage one or two deckhands and ensure the crew is effectively managing their tasks at hand.
The Captain will be operating the “JANE D’EAU” which is a 18m aluminum self-propelled twin-engine aquaculture workboat built in 2019 by Kanter Marine in St. Thomas, ON.
Duties and Responsibilities
o Coordinate with the Farm Manager for scheduling vessel services including harvest plans, equipment deliveries/pickups and feed deliveries
o Safe loading and unloading of cargo on vessel with a forklift
o Ensure the boat is fully equipped and properly maintained including mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems onboard the vessel
o Safely maintain and operate a hydraulic 4 TM crane
o General farm tasks to keep the whole operation running
Requirements
o Fishing Masters IV or 60- Tonne Limited Master Transport Canada Marine Certification
o Available to work from Early May to December
o Operate a crane and boom and possess Forklift and Kubota skills
o Willingness to work long days
o Excellent knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and electric systems and troubleshooting skills
o Strong communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills and being able to maintain a positive work environment
