POSITION QUALIFICATIONS ARE:
Minimum Personal Support Worker Certificate, Health Care Aide Certificate or equivalent
Experience in a setting for people who have physical and/or developmental disability
Obtain and maintain First-Aid Certification, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) and WHMIS training within six months
Good interpersonal skills
Good written and verbal communication skills
Bondable
Valid driver’s license and a good driving record
Bilingualism an asset, essential where necessary
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES ARE:
Understand and promote the Agency’s Goals and Objectives
Understand and adhere to all policies and procedures of the Agency and the Program
Understand and adhere to all governing Federal, Provincial and Municipal Legislative Acts
present a positive public image of the Agency
Ensure and provide quality services
Participate as a team member
Adhere to availability call-in procedures
Participate and promote team approach to ensure quality of client service through the Person Centered Plan process
Promote community inclusion and concept of normalization
Ensure client dignity, privacy and confidentiality at all times
SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES ARE:
Client Service
Adhere to all Medication Procedures
Participate in development and provide follow through of Individual Service Plan (ISP) and Person Centered Plan (PCP)
Responsible for awareness of medical side effects and medical conditions relating to clients in residence
Provide safe and responsible supervision of all clients
Provide a positive role model
Coach and counsel clients to enhance their personal health, fitness and well-being
Assist clients in planning and participating in community leisure activities
Assist individual clients with their personal hygiene and appearance, as needed
Ensure clients’ physical and emotional needs are recognized and addressed
Assist clients to maintain a safe, clean environment
Assist clients in completing and maintaining day to day maintenance chores and promote awareness of Health and Safety
Maintain communications with other Agency staff regarding the clients, as necessary
Provide transportation of clients in Agency vehicles, as required
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:
Complete administrative duties, as required
Complete daily program and client logs, where applicable
Assist in the reduction of waste and recommend purchase of new materials
Record medical information in accordance with medical procedures
Ensure security; opening and closing of locations, as designated
Obtain approval for purchases from Manager or designate and record finances appropriately
Advise management of training needs and request appropriate training programs
Liaise with family members, where applicable
Attend all necessary meetings
HEALTH AND SAFETY DUTIES:
Observe and reinforce Health and Safety Programs in the workplace; deal with accidents, hazards and incidents; administer first-aid and provide documentation as per the Act and Agency Procedures
Participate with ongoing Health and Safety Programs
Complete daily and monthly safety checks, where applicable
Maintain sound knowledge of and follow the Emergency Procedures
complete vehicle circle check and ensure safe and lawful operation of Agency vehicles
Abide by the Agency’s Non-Smoking Policy

Requirements:
Post-secondary diploma for Developmental Services Worker or equivalent in Human Services field preferred
First year DSW students may qualify
Personal Support Worker/Health Care Aide Certificate or equivalent
Valid driver’s license
Standard First Aid
Vulnerable Sector Criminal Reference Check will be required
Hours of work will vary
Bilingualism an asset
