Scope:

            Under the direct supervision of the North Lodge Program Manager and the overall supervision of the Executive Director, the Program Cook will be responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious, culturally relevant meals for clients, staff, and organizational functions. The Program Cook supports client wellness by promoting healthy eating habits, incorporating traditional Indigenous foods where appropriate, and ensuring all kitchen operations are conducted in accordance with applicable health, safety, and food service regulations.

Responsibilities:

Plan, prepare, and serve nutritious meals and snacks for clients, staff and organizational functions, including accommodating dietary restrictions, allergies, medical requirements, and cultural preferences.
Develop healthy, balanced, and specialized menus that promote wellness and healthy eating habits.
Research and incorporate healthy recipes, traditional Indigenous foods, and local food providers where appropriate.
Organize and coordinate food and kitchen supplies for purchasing approval.
Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure proper food storage, stock rotation, and waste reduction practices.
Keep kitchen, dining, storage, and food preparation areas organized, and well-maintained.
Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and workspaces in accordance with established infection prevention, food safety, and sanitation standards.
Follow all food handling, preparation, storage, and service guidelines.
Ensure all kitchen operations comply with applicable federal, provincial, and local public health requirements, including the Ontario Food Premises Regulation and organizational policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
Experience in cooking for large numbers of people.
Have Microsoft Office and computer skills.
Be a role model in the community.
Have or willing to obtain CPR/First Aid, NVCI or other required trainings.
Must be willing to obtain a clear Broad Record Check.
Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Salary & Benefits:

Base Salary: $45,000 – $48,000 per year
Additional 4% vacation pay on top of Base Salary
3-Weeks Paid Sick Time, 3-Weeks Paid Vacation Pay (Accrued)
