KINA Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services

OVERVIEW
The incumbent will work in a collaborative team environment and receive direction from the assigned teacher, and under the supervision of the Education Team Lead. The Educational Support Worker will also be assigned at the Lead’s discretion, to meet the needs of the specific students and/or program with in Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services (KGCFS) boundaries.
QUALIFICATIONS

• College Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) Child and Youth Care Worker (CYW)
Developmental Service Worker (DSW) or Educational Assistant (EA).
• Experience in working within an Anishinabe Child and Family Well-Being Services is preferred or
proven experience in working with Anishinabek people.
• An individual of Anishinaabe ancestry is preferred with genuine understanding and lived experiences of Anishinaabe worldviews, traditions, customs and practices.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES
• Broad knowledge of child development and of assistive devices.
• Working knowledge of the individual education plans, behaviour safety plans & behaviour management plans.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, multi-tasking skills, negotiation skills, mediation skills, and a high level of patience.
• Effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to request/convey information in an
appropriate manner.
• Capacity to be sensitive to the needs of students with exceptionalities.
• Aptitude to recognize individual learning styles and the characteristics of learners.
• Experience working within a First Nation education system would be an asset. Knowledge of First
Nation culture, traditions, and language.
• Strong computer skills in various software and programs (Microsoft, smart board, iPad, Elmo, etc.).
• The ability to speak the Anishinaabe language is a definite asset and / or willingness for continual
learning. Preference will be given to applicants who can speak or write Ojibway, provided they have
skills, ability and qualifications to do the job
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Given the traditional practices of the Anishinabek, from time-to-time exposure to wood smoke and the burning of sacred medicines, including tobacco, sweet grass, sage, or cedar, may occur within the work setting.
