Our Community Support Services (CSS) team provides essential services that enable our clients to thrive. Whether their disability is physical, the result of brain injury, or aging, our more than 2,000 team members assist clients in their homes and across communities, to live as independently as possible.
The opportunity
Known internally as Support Service Attendants, we have 2 Part time opportunities in our Northeast Region – Elliot Lake.
Flexible schedule: Includes mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. (adjust shifts times as necessary)
Hours: This position is less than 30 hours per week.
Starting wage: $ 22.52, inclusive of the $3.00 per hour wage enhancement from the Ontario government for hours spent directly supporting clients. The wage enhancement does not apply to training and paid leave.
Responsibilities
Assist consumers in their own homes with non-medical activities of daily living in accordance with individual service plans and with March of Dimes Canada policies and procedures:
Personal care
Lifts and Transfers
Rising/retiring
Bowel and bladder procedures
Meal preparation and feeding
Range of motion exercises
Other light housekeeping duties
Perform duties in a professional manner, which respects the dignity and right to privacy and maintains consumer and staff health and safety.
Qualifications and experience
Driver’s License, and reliable means of transportation is a requirement of the position to travel to and from client homes
Grade 12 Diploma is a requirement and/or PSW certificate
Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification, or the ability to obtain within 3 months of employment
Experience working with individuals with physical disabilities, experience/knowledge/understanding of Independent Living or Client Based Care
Knowledge of and abilities in transferring, lifting, bowel and bladder routines and other attendant care duties
Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, including de-escalation techniques
Physical Demands Self Analysis Required upon hire
Professionalism in dealing with team members and other service providers
Experience with mental health and behaviour management skills an asset
Ability to speak, read and write English
Ability to work flexible and regularly scheduled hours, including weekends and evenings
Important details
The Support Services Attendants will be required to work multiple shifts (i.e., days, evenings, weekends, and holidays).
