Reporting Relationship
The Communications Officer reports to the Enaagdenjged and works collaboratively with Chief and Council and Senior Management to establish and implement effective communication strategies for the benefit of the M’Chigeeng First Nation Citizens.
Position Summary
The Communications Officer shall establish and implement effective communication strategies for the benefit of the M’Chigeeng First Nation Citizens. The incumbent shall collaborate with Senior Management and Administrative personnel to develop a communications strategy/program focused on bringing information to the community through a variety of communication methods.
The Communications Officer shall be responsible for M’Chigeeng First Nation website maintenance and updating, the creation and administration of social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook and Twitter. The Communications Officer shall be responsible in preparing quarterly newsletters to be distributed to the community. The Communications Officer shall assist in coordinating community meetings and ensuring that notice is provided to the membership.
Qualifications and Requirements
Preferred
Post-Secondary Diploma in Business Administration, Communications or other related education.
Knowledge of Social Media Platforms;
Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills to develop trust and positive working relationships with Chief and Council senior management, staff and community.
Minimum
A combination of education and training with 2 years’ experience related to the areas of responsibility of the Communications Officer;
Strong knowledge of general office procedures and applications;
Hands-on experience with productivity applications, including word processing, email clients, and presentation software;
Strong knowledge of M’Chigeeng First Nation and M’Chigeeng First Nation members;
Other
Experience in planning events; experience in preparation of newsletters, communications, bulletins, calendars, etc for distribution;
Excellent time management skills, multi-tasking skills, ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision;
Demonstrated experience applying knowledge of research methodologies and analysis techniques
Knowledge, understanding and application of Anishinaabek and M’Chigeeng First Nation language, practice, values and history
A valid Driver’s License for occasional travel

CRC must be thirty (30) days current and be an original or certified copy.
