Salary: $24.50/hour

Position Summary
The Water Wastewater Operator in Training position(s) is a pivotal role designed to prepare candidates for a successful transition into a Certified Water Operator under the Environmental Operators Certification Program within one year. Reporting to the Overall Responsible Operator (ORO), the OIT will collaborate closely with Senior Operators, assisting in various aspects of operations, maintenance, sampling, testing, documentation, inventory, and health and safety. Certified training will be provided at various stages, and successful completion is required. This position offers a unique opportunity for individuals with a strong interest in water and wastewater quality and the operation and maintenance of a small water and wastewater systems. OIT will be expected to work with the Contractor during the progress of the new Plants. It is expected that the OIT’s will be spending 50%/50% on W-WW Ops and Construction respectively.

Reporting Relationship
The Operator in Training (OIT) Water Plant and Wastewater Treatment will report to the Water-Wastewater Overall Responsible Operator.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities Water-Wastewater Operations:
Under the Supervision of the ORO or OIC:

Conducts regular inspections of water and wastewater systems to ensure the systems are operating at the desired level of quality.
Records meter readings, collects and delivers water and wastewater samples for bacteriological analysis.
Operates and maintains water and wastewater treatment plants/lagoons and equipment as directed by the system Operator-In-Charge.
Operates manual and power tools and light duty trucks.
Repairs and maintains watermains, fire hydrants, water service lines, valves, pumping stations, wastewater sewer mains, wastewater service lines and wastewater force mains.
Performs minor maintenance tasks related to vehicles and equipment. 
May be required to assist in other First Nation operations.
Required to be on stand-by and carry a municipal cell phone, respond to emergency situations and work overtime.     
Required to conduct system inspections on weekends and statutory holidays as scheduled.
Must obtain licenses for level of facilities without undue delay.
Performs other related duties as required.
Responsibilities-Construction Period:
Under the Supervision of the Contractor Site Foreman

Work requires driving to jobsite, between jobsites and to supplier sites.
Assist co-worker to lift materials up to 100 pounds.
Body movements of walking on construction sites, climbing ladders, crawling into work areas, turning the head and torso, reaching, grasping, bending, and flexing the arms, legs, wrists, and fingers. The senses of being able to see hear and have full power of speech.

Requirements and Qualifications

Qualifications:

Grade 12 required
Valid Ontario Drivers license with insurance
Analytical, problem-solving, planning and scheduling skills required to effectively inspect, operate and monitor the facilities processes and equipment.
Ability to perform routine preventive maintenance; take samples, interpret results and make process control adjustments to resolve operating issues.
Good oral and written communication skills to liaise with a variety of people including coworkers, clients, suppliers, while keeping accurate logs and writing reports.
Ability to work in a team environment and take initiative.
Ability to perform manual labor.
Working with Microsoft programs and general computer knowledge is an asset.
Requirements for Full Time Position:

Successful completion of OIT Entry Requirements
Successful Completion of Class 1 License for Water Treatment and Wastewater Treatment.
Successful Conduct for Construction Period (1 year)
CRC Rationale:  Applicants must provide CRC must have a record clear and/or dated of any convictions relating to alcohol, drugs, assault, violence, and theft. The CRC must be current (30 days), must be an original and submitted prior to start of employment.

The successful candidate will be required to submit a current thirty (30) day CRC/VSS; and an offer of employment is contingent upon the receipt of a satisfactory CRC/VSS record.
