Salary: $27.49 – $30.60 Per hour*

In this role, you will:
• oversee park maintenance operations under the direction of the Park Superintendent and assistant Park Superintendent and provide leadership and training to staff at Misery Bay Provincial Park in the area of park maintenance.
• assist in the preparation, review and updating of various park plans
• meet with park visitors, contractors, and business operators, as required by program area responsibilities
• explain park rules to park patrons and requesting compliance, issue warnings, intervene and carry out evictions
• schedule work, set priorities, and ensure work is completed in a safe manner
• operate and maintain the park water treatment plant
• procure goods for the maintenance program
• operate a variety of equipment such as tractors, chainsaws, landscaping equipment and tools.
Mandatory requirements:
• You possess a valid class ‘G’ driver’s licence, or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario.
• You are able to be designated as a Park Warden and complete Ministry certification criteria and standards in Use of Force.
• You have the ability to operate/navigate a variety of vessels
• You possess or have the ability to obtain a Small Vessel Operators Permit (SVOP)
• You possess or have the ability to obtain a Med A3 certification
• You possess or have the ability to obtain a Level II ORCKA certification
• You possess or have the ability to obtain a Federal Fisheries Designation.
• You possess or have the ability to obtain a valid First Aid Certificate.
• You can work shifts, weekends and statutory holidays as per schedule.
Technical knowledge and skills:
You have:
• working knowledge of services and operating regulations to perform all regulatory inspections and assessments, assist with overall park maintenance operations.
• demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply park policies, procedures, directives and operating standards to deliver efficient and effective park operations
• demonstrated knowledge of law enforcement and applicable Provincial and Federal legislation
• knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
• knowledge of general facility, grounds keeping, utility and equipment maintenance
• demonstrated experience using various equipment such as chainsaws, cutters, and lawn mowers, etc.
• knowledge of small drinking water systems and water treatment facility maintenance
Leadership skills:
• proven interpersonal and team leadership skills to work collaboratively with others, lead teams, train and supervise staff and promote customer service
• demonstrated relationship building skills to foster and maintain relationships
• able to enforce various acts and regulations within the park, and to act as supervisor and/or duty officer
Administrative skills and knowledge:
• knowledge of general purchasing practices in order to ensure accurate expenditure and monitoring and reporting.
• organizational, planning and coordinating skills to conduct or assist group leader/superintendent in ordering and maintaining inventory, arranging and preparing seasonal training, and maintenance of equipmentInterpersonal and communication skills:
• communication skills to handle and address situations relating to enforcement and emergency situations and visitor complaints
• interpersonal skills to provide advice and recommendations to staff and colleagues as well as park visitors regarding maintenance and enforcement issues/situations
• ability to prepare correspondence, incident reports, operating/emergency plans, etc.
Analytical and problem-solving skills:
• ability to solve problems, implement resolutions and effectively enforce park rules and deal with difficult and emergency situations
• possess well developed coordination and organizational skills to schedule staff work hours, deal with competing demands and work on multiple projectsEssential knowledge:
• demonstrated proficiency with common office productivity software such as, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, etc.
• knowledge of procurement and accounting practices
