Assistive Technology Technician

Aasgaabwitwindwaa Binoojiinhik Wiin ni Gshkiwewziwaat (ABWnG) is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Assistive Technology Technician. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing specialized support in the selection, customization, and implementation of assistive technology solutions for children. The technician will work closely with schools to ensure compatibility with existing applications and programs used by educational institutions, support children transitioning to new schools outside our service area, and collaborate with occupational therapists, physiotherapists, autism consultants, or other service providers in ordering individual specific items, including weighted therapeutic products. This role will evolve based on the unique needs of each child.

• Assess individual needs and recommend appropriate assistive technology devices and solutions.
• Provide training and support to children, their families, and schools on the use of assistive technology.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers, educators, and other stakeholders to ensure comprehensive
• Work with schools to match or use similar assistive technology applications and programs they utilize.
• Assist with the transition of students to new schools outside our service area, ensuring continuity of

• Maintain accurate records of assessments, recommendations, and follow-up actions.
• Troubleshoot and provide technical support for assistive devices.
• Stay updated on the latest trends and advancements in assistive technology.


  •  Degree or higher in Assistive Technology, Learning Disabilities, and or a related field, plus additional training.
    • Certification for Assistive Technology Professionals (ATP) as asset.
    • Experience working with assistive technology, particularly with a pediatric population.
    • Strong understanding of various assistive devices and their applications.
    • 3 years experience within a school setting.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
    • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
    • Experience with weighted therapeutic products.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment.
    • Ability to work flexible hours and travel
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Anishinabek culture, formal cultural sensitivity training, and experience
    working with Aboriginal cultures are assets.
    • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and reliable vehicle.
    • Clear CPIC and Vulnerable Sector Screen are required
