Mental Health and Addictions Nurse

Summary
The Mental Health and Addictions Nurse provides compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges. The RN conducts assessments, develops and implements care plans, administers treatments, and supports recovery-oriented, trauma-informed care in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities
1. Conduct comprehensive mental health and psychosocial assessments.
2. Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
3. Administer and monitor psychotropic and other medications.
4. Perform suicide risk assessments and crisis intervention.
5. Utilize de-escalation and therapeutic communication techniques.
6. Provide psychoeducation to patients and families.
7. Support individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
8. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
9. Work collaboratively with psychiatrists, physicians, social workers, psychologists, and allied health professionals.
10. Participate in interdisciplinary case conferences and discharge planning.
11. Coordinate referrals to community support and follow-up services

Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) graduate, registered in good standing as RN with the CNO.
• Additional training in mental health nursing, crisis management, and suicide prevention is preferred.
• Demonstrated competence in mental health nursing and therapeutic communication.
• Knowledge of CBT, trauma informed care, and problem-solving therapies is an asset.
• Minimum two years nursing experience, preferably in mental health or community health.
• Experience in inpatient psychiatry, community mental health, crisis services, or addictions
• Experience working with clients actively in addiction or in recovery
• Experience with group presentations, offering education on mental health and addiction to a variety of person(s) or groups
• Knowledge of concurrent disorders and complexity of intergenerational trauma on addiction
• Training in trauma-informed care, harm reduction, or crisis intervention
• Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in high-stress environments.
• Culturally safe and recovery-oriented practice
• Experience working with First Nations organizations or communities is a strong asset

Salary: $76,186.50
