STATUS: PERMANENT FULL-TIME

ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports to the Executive Director

POSITION SUMMARY: The Aboriginal Health Outreach Worker assists urban Indigenous people to understand the health care system and to obtain the care they require.  Services include advocacy, assistance with forms, assistance with housing, status card applications, social assistance, promotion of healthy lifestyles, violence free families, and access to cultural healing resources.

To be an example of cultural leadership, high moral, personal conduct and effective teamwork.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Minimum college or university level accreditation or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous language and culture(s) common to the area to be served
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Group facilitation skills
  • Knowledge and experience working with Indigenous people
  • Good community development skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines with minimum supervision
  • Knowledge nd experience working with health care system
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract
  • Access to a reliable vehicle and 2M liability insurance
  • Provide a satisfactory CPIC/Vulnerable sector check
  • CPR/First Aid current certification, or willing to acquire within a set timeframe
