Northern Ontario Railroad Museum & Heritage Centre

Eligible Candidate:

  1. Is either a new entrant into the workforce, is transitioning to a new career, or is unemployed or underemployed and is entering a new field,

  7. This position is made possible through the support of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC).

Support the development and implementation of community engagement initiatives, including events, educational programs, and partnerships with local organizations, schools, and Indigenous communities.

Assist with business development activities by identifying new revenue opportunities, conducting grant research, recruiting volunteers, and supporting fundraising and sponsorship initiatives.

Contribute to marketing and communications efforts by creating content for social media, newsletters, website updates, and promotional materials to increase visitation and community awareness.

Support visitor services enhancement by gathering feedback, analyzing visitor data, and assisting with customer experience improvement strategies.

Assist with tourism development initiatives through collaboration with regional tourism partners and participation in joint promotional efforts

Participate in the planning and delivery of exhibitions, special events, and heritage programming.

Conduct research and maintain documentation related to Northern Ontario railway history, community heritage assets, and museum best practices.

Help build upon the Town of Capreol’s and the Museum’s recent national recognition through Communities in Bloom by supporting efforts to enhance downtown Capreol as a living railway-themed museum experience.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in Business Administration, Marketing, Tourism, Museum Studies, Public Administration, Communications, Community Development, or a related field is an asset.
  • Previous experience in an administrative, clerical, customer service, community outreach, tourism, heritage, museum, or business development role.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and general office equipment.
  • Experience with data entry, record management, and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with community members, visitors, volunteers, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Research and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence and access to reliable transportation.
