Sables-Spanish Rivers Public Library - Webbwood & Massey Branch

Qualifications:           Grade 12 or equivalent. Excel Certificate in Managing a Small Public Library or Library Technician Diploma or equivalent related education or library experience an asset. Experience in serving the public; experience and the ability to design, promote and deliver creative and effective programming for all ages; competent in the use and operation of multiple information technology devices; demonstrated oral and written communication skills; accuracy in keeping records; good organizational skills; ability to learn and work independently; ability to effectively train and supervise staff & volunteers; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships displaying judgment and tact with staff, Board members and the general public; ability to lift and move of boxes/bins of library materials (up to 50 pounds); must be able to provide a criminal records check; ability and willingness to travel to attend and participate in workshop in-service and training sessions; must possess a valid driver’s license and means of transportation; possession a Food Handlers’ certificate an asset; current First Aid & CPR certificate will be required. Ability to work as part of a team and independently.

Reports to:                 Library CEO

Hours of Work:          20-24 hours per week. Days, evenings and weekends.

Wage:                         $25.07 hourly rate

Location:                    Sables-Spanish Rivers Public Library – Webbwood & Massey Branch

Probationary Period:  3 Months

Job Description:       The Branch Librarian will maintain effective delivery of library services to the public, by promoting a positive space and image in line with the spirit of the Public Libraries Act. Must maintain a safe and welcoming atmosphere. The Branch Librarian is responsible for the overall operations of the local library branch. They implement current information technology in all aspects of their work including circulation functions, record keeping, reporting, and communications. They coordinate and implement community programs, services and promotions in the local community in collaboration with the Local Library Board. They are supervised and report to the CEO while working with considerable independence. Throughout their work, and particularly in serving the public, they are required to exercise judgment based on knowledge of the organization of the local library and its policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

Collection Development

·         Weed and Process library materials.

·         Make suggestions to CEO for the purchase of library materials

Inter-library Loan Service

·         Submit, respond and order Inter-Library Loan (ILL) requests.

Technology Assistance

·         Deliver technological training to patrons

·         Assist with library social media accounts

·         Use various maker-space technologies

·         Assist with maintenance of the library website, posting new items and removing old items.

Circulation Services/Customer Services

·         Perform circulation desk procedures, such as check in and checkout materials, registering patrons, and collecting fines, etc.

·         Sanitizing and re-shelving library materials

·         Transit materials on hold between branches

·         Assist with administrative services

·         Assist patrons with information requests and readers advisory

Programming

·         Create and run library programs/events each month

·         Create library displays

·         Making of monthly grab ‘n’ go craft kits

·         Make suggestions for virtual or accessible program alternatives

·         Marketing and advertising of library features, events & programs’

·         Create monthly events calendar & monthly newsletter

Administrative

·         Open and close the library

·         Count daily cash and till, prepare monthly deposit

·         Prepare financial reports as directed by the CEO

·         Oversee the care and maintenance of the Branch

·         Oversee the health and safety of the Branch

·         Prepare monthly reports and statistics

·         Perform other duties as requested by the CEO

·         Faxing, printing/photocopying, laminating, scanning to email, responding to emails and phone calls.
