Sheshegwaning First Nation

Sheshegwaning First Nation is currently accepting applications for an Anishinabemowin Language Teacher at St. Joseph’s Anishinabek School.

 

Essential Duties:

·         Work under the supervision of the Principal.

Develop lesson plans, assessments, evaluations and provide Language Instruction for all grades assigned.
·         Inspire and mentor students to develop pride in their ancestral language and motivate them to use language in communications within all aspects of their daily lives.

·         Implement and deliver culturally appropriate Anishnaabe teachings within the school and community setting.

·         Develop and implement long range plans.

·         Prepare and administer assessments.

·         Evaluate the progress of students and discuss results with students, parents, and school officials.

·         Participate in staff meetings, teacher training workshops, professional development days and other school functions.

·         May supervise teacher assistants and student teachers.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

·         Fluency in Anishinabemowin

·         Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT)

·         Must have knowledge and/or experience of the culture, tradition, history and customs of the Anishnaabe

Excellent rapport with young people in a mentoring role, positive interpersonal skills, and willingness to work collaboratively and in cooperation within a team environment
Ability to interact with staff and community in a positive and professional manner
Maintains and follows internal routines and procedures for child health and safety and school wellness
·         CRC/CPIC and Vulnerable Sector Screening will be required

 

Location: Sheshegwaning First Nation – St. Josephs Anishinabek School

 

Salary Range: as per salary grid
