Sheshegwaning First Nation

Sheshegwaning First Nation is seeking a Estates Manager who is responsible for working jointly with Land, Resources Environment and Membership and Estates developing capacity for the management of estates.  The applicant will help resolve old estate issues as well as new ones that arise. Education for members of Sheshegwaning First Nation, on Wills and property guardianship. While maintaining the Mission, Beliefs and Vision of the Sheshegwaning First Nation.

 

DUTIES

·         Update information on membership land possessions with historical back up, digitizing file for membership & estates.

·         Creating educational materials, to promote the importance of Last Will and Testament and executors etc.

·         Developing governance capacity for management of membership and estates.

·         Exploring, developing or advancing alternative management of estates

·         Work in collaboration with Lawyers, consultants and community members to coordinate engagement sessions.

·         Update current system and data input for historical record keeping.

·         Education to community members on MRT (Matrimonial Real Property) land holdings on reserve, non member relationship rights etc.

·         Design tools to provide information and training about estates management, being a property guardian, estate planning and or substitute decision making planning.

·         Attend training and workshops and team activities to build capacity of the department.

·         Increase the number of wills written by First Nation Members

·         Host workshops/community engagement sessions on estate planning and how to complete estate forms and submit settlement agreement claim forms.

·         Building trust and relationships with community members.

·         Develop community capacity to better support Indigenous dependent adults living on a reserve.

·         Contribute to a harmonious team environment within the organization.

·         Always maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

·         Performing other related duties as may be required and assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

•         Secondary School Diploma

•         Must have a valid “G” Class driver’s license

•         Valid CPR and First Aid Certificates would be an asset

•         Ability to travel frequently if necessary

•         Demonstrated sensitivity to and knowledge to the First Nation cultural values and traditions

•         Ability to deal effectively with difficult clients and conflicting situations

•         Ability to use good judgement in assessing difficult situations

•         Flexibility required to keep pace with an ever-changing environment

•         Willingness to accept changes in work practices and technology

•         Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines

•         Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team

•         Able to report for work as scheduled and to attend work regularly

•         Must undergo a criminal record check (CPIC), and vulnerable sector check annually and prior to employment

Location: Sheshegwaning First Nation, Administration Building

 

Salary Range: As per contribution agreement.
