Required Qualifications:

• Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
• Peri-operative Nursing Certificate or equivalent combination of education or experience

Abilities/Skills/Knowledge:

• Knowledge of, and willingness to support SJGHEL’s Mission, Vision & Values of Compassion, Humility and Harmony, Respect, Integrity, Social Responsibility and The Sacredness of Life.
• Demonstrated skill level with computers, MS Word, Internet searches, data entry and electronic Health Information System
• Provides care with strict adherence to the College of Nurses Standards of Practice and SJGHEL organizational policies and procedures.
• Must be able to meet the required physical demands of the position which include lifting, pulling and pushing, walking, standing, transferring and transporting patients and equipment frequently.
• Provides education and support to patients and family members.
• Provides comprehensive assessment to peri-operative patients.
• The RPN advocates for patients’ right to be informed and to make autonomous decisions regarding their care by promoting patient health and safety throughout the perioperative experience.
• Works in collaboration with visiting specialists to promote SJGHEL goals of increasing access, improve coordination, transform communication and enhance patient experience.
• The RPN accepts additional responsibilities as assigned and/or as requested by the Charge Nurse and/or Patient Care Manager i.e. preceptor for orientation of new staff.
• The RPN supports and attends educational programs offered at SJGHEL and actively participates in initiatives that enhance the peri-operative, visiting specialist program
