Whitefish River First Nation

The Whitefish River First Nation (WRFN) is seeking a teacher to join Shawanosowe School, an Indigenous school governed under the WRFN and regionally through the Kinoomaadziwin Education Body. Our community-centered school, with a student ratio of 8-12 per classroom, is dedicated to academic achievement while providing a strong foundation in culture and identity. We are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment that embraces diversity and enriches learning opportunities for students and staff.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated:
• Your understanding and appreciation of the significant role that Anishinaabe Aadziwin plays in a First Nations school is crucial. It will help foster a strong sense of identity and belonging among our students, a key aspect of our school’s mission.
• Achieve academic excellence by working collaboratively with school staff and communicating effectively with parents.
• To ensure all students are supervised in a safe, culturally supportive environment that meets the approved curriculum plans and mission of Shawanosowe School.
• Achieve academic excellence by working collaboratively with school staff and communicating effectively with parents.
• Develops lesson plans and manages learning experiences, curricular and extra-curricular, to ensure that the needs of the class and individual students are met.
• Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds,
learning styles, and high needs.

Candidates must hold an Ontario Teaching Certificate with an active license with the Ontario College of Teachers, along with:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
• Certification in Primary/Junior and/or Junior Intermediate.
• Additional qualifications in Special education would be considered an asset.
• At least 3+ years of teaching experience.
• Must have excellent planning and organizational skills.
• Strong computer skills in various software and programs.
• Up-to-date First Aid and CPR.
• Experience working with Indigenous communities would be considered an asset.
• Knowledge of First Nation culture, traditions, and language would be an asset (or the willingness to learn).
• Strong computer skills in various software and programs relevant to the position.
