Water Treatment Plant Operator
Full-Time – Indefinite / 40 hours per week
Salary Range: $50,490 – $60,290 + group pension and extended health benefits.
*Starting salary based on education and experience.
The Water Treatment Plant Operator will assist in performing operations and maintenance activities with respect to the centralized and decentralized water systems and operations and maintenance activities with respect to the WRFN Wastewater System.
Under the supervision of the Infrastructure and Emergency Services Manager (ORO), the Water Treatment Plant Operator will monitor and operate computerized control systems and related equipment in water filtration and treatment plants and regulate the treatment and distribution of water. Lastly, based on water quality monitoring developed by the environmental health officer, the operator will effectively test the quality of our First Nations communal drinking water and recreation areas.
Events key responsibilities:
• Operate and monitor computerized control systems and related equipment in the water treatment plant to regulate the treatment and distribution of water.
• Monitor and inspect plant equipment and systems to detect malfunctions and ensure regular operation.
• Read flow metres, gauges and other recording instruments to measure water output and consumption levels, bacterial content, chlorine levels, etc.
• Collect and test water samples for chemical and bacterial content, analyze test results and instrument readings, and adjust plant equipment and systems to ensure quality control.
• Monitor water quality testing for all potable private water systems not connected to the communal
system.
Qualifications:
• Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
• Level I Water Treatment and Level I Water Distribution (Level II would be an asset).
• Knowledge of water treatment regulations and guidelines, such as those set by the EPA.
• Valid Class G Driver’s Licence.
• Willing to take ongoing/additional training as needed and to receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
• Training or certifications in First Aid, CPR and hazardous materials handling will be required.
SKILLS:
• Strong technical knowledge of water treatment processes, equipment and systems.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve issues that may arise during the treatment process.
• Attention to detail to accurately monitor and analyze water samples and equipment readings.
• Ability to interpret and apply regulations and guidelines related to water treatment, safety and
environmental protection.
• Effective communication skills to coordinate and collaborate with colleagues, regulatory agencies and stakeholders.
