WUT is seeking to fill a vacancy under the Wikwemikong Band Representative Program. An energetic motivated individual, the Band Representing the Wikwemikong Unceded Territory”s interests in Ontario Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA) proceedings involving WUT children.
DUTIES
- To promote the safety and well-being of WUT children and ensure that the rights of our band members are respected and upheld by the courts.
- Interview clients/families to assess their situation on child court matters
- To provide and participate in alternative dispute resolution/mediation
- Prepare legal documents in assisting the children’s for the court
- Must travel and attend court out of town
- Must be able to work under tight deadlines and with minimal supervision
- Imperative to maintain confidentiality/privacy employing tact and sensitivity at all times
- Must be available to do afterhours “On Call” schedule which is 24/7 from 4:00pm-8:00am daily
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post- Secondary education in social service work
- 3-4 years experience ( working in child welfare court room experience a definite asset)
- Knowledge of court proceedings involving child youth and family services matters
- Working knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act
- Excellent proven interpersonal, communication, written, organizational and computer skills
- Must have knowledge of Anishinabe culture,calues,beliefs and traditional history
- Operating proficiency in software such as MSWordExcel and Power Point
- To be able to work independently and as a team player
- Possess a valid drivers license and have access to a vehicle
- Knowledge of Anishnawbemowin and culture and committed to continual learning development
