Wiikwemkoong Board of Education
Under the direct supervision of the Principal, and the general supervision of the Yaasgaabwitaaget
(Superintendent of Academics) and Kinoomaagewi Gimaa (Director of Education).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
➢ Providing crisis intervention and one-on-one support to students and their parents when
requested or as they may occur.
➢ Providing resource navigation to mental health and/or community agencies for students and/or
their families (i.e., Naandwechige-Gamig Health Centre, Nadmadwin Mental Health,
Aasgaabwitwindwaa Binoojiinhik Wiin ni Gshkiwewziwaat and/or other service providers).
➢ Provide attendance counselling services for the school through various means (home visits,
collaborating with community partners, communicating with parents).
➢ Maintaining appropriate and confidential records involving direct and indirect attendance
consultations with students and their parents.
➢ Promote the physical, emotional, and social development of students.
➢ Collaborate with staff in a multitude of areas as they relate to student health and well-being.
QUALIFICATIONS:
➢ Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work degree with registration in good standing
with the Ontario College of Social Workers.
➢ Training in clinical interviewing and evidence-informed interventions with children.
➢ Experience providing various treatment modalities to children (i.e., CBT, Motivational
Interviewing, DBT strategies).
➢ Experience in adapting treatment modalities that are culturally relevant and identity affirming.
➢ Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with other professionals.
➢ Ability to work in a team environment and work independently with minimal supervision.
➢ Experience working in an educational setting, and knowledge and appreciation of Anishinabek
Culture, Traditions, Language, and History is considered an asset.
➢ Provide a cover letter, resume and three (3) current work-related references.
