Wiikwemkoong Board of Education
Under the direct supervision of the Principal and general supervision of the Superintendent of
Academics/Systems Principal, the Student Wellness Navigator will be assigned tasks in
collaboration with the Special Education Resource Teachers and Social/Guidance Counsellors for
student programming and scheduling.
RESPONSIBILITES:
➢ Facilitate one-on-one and group wellness activities.
➢ Provide individual counselling and support to students to promote positive emotional
behaviours.
➢ Provide support services for referred individuals and their families (on an individual basis and
group settings) and maintain appropriate and confidential records of all students.
➢ Provide support to students displaying at-risk behaviour and crisis intervention.
➢ Complete reporting and other administration requirements.
➢ Liaise with other community agencies and services in Wikwemikong.
➢ Participate and facilitate extra-curricular activities for students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
➢ Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent.
➢ Knowledge of the legacy of Residential Schools, colonization and assimilation of First
Nations peoples, and the impact of such history on the health of individuals and
communities.
➢ Possess cultural competency and knowledge of the cultural traditions, practices, community
empowerment process, Restorative Justice Practices and collaborate with community
groups.
➢ Mental Health First Aid, Violence Threat Risk Assessment Training Level 1 & 2 an asset.
➢ At least three years directly related experience with delivery of programming and
understanding youth and supporting community development in First Nation communities.
➢ Knowledge and appreciation of Anishinabek culture, traditions, language, and history.
➢ Provide a cover letter, resume, and three current work-related references.
➢ Provide a current vulnerable/criminal reference check (within the last 90 days) upon offer of
employment.
