Anishinaabe Knowledge Keeper
The individuals will work under the direct supervision of the School Principal, and the general supervision of the Yaasgaabwitaaget (Systems Principal/Superintendent of Academics)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide kind, competent and safe care for students, families and staff.
• Provide access to teachings and ceremonies for students, families and staff.
• Co-facilitate circles related to trauma and grief with the Mino Bimaadiziwin staff and Student Wellness staff.
• Model and mentor the Seven Grandfather Teachings
• Advise on the ordering of necessary resources for lessons (Anishinaabe medicines, cultural activity
resources)
• Invite community Elders and Knowledge Keepers to be part of the learning.
• Collaborate with the Wiikwemkoong Anishinaabemowin Kinoomaagewin Department for resources.
• Connect with community agencies (Wiikwemkoong Lands Department, Wiikwemkoong Heritage
Organization, community Knowledge Keepers, etc)
• Co-plan ceremonies and teachings with school staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Fluency/proficiency in Anishinaabemowin.
• Knowledge and appreciation of Anishinaabe Culture, History and Anishinaabe Teachings.
• Experience working in the role of sharing cultural knowledge and programming.
• Ability to facilitate programming involving traditional Anishinaabe crafts, storytelling and other cultural knowledge/skills.
• Mentorship from Elders on ceremony and teachings.
• Demonstrated traditional ecological knowledge as it pertains to local ecological systems.
• Experience working effectively on a team with a strong child-centered focus.
• Provide a cover letter, resume, and three (3) current work-related references.
• Provide a current vulnerable/criminal reference check (within the last 90 days) upon offer of
employment.
