Anishinaabemowin Mentor
The Anishinaabemowin Mentor will play a vital role in revitalizing and sustaining Anishinaabemowin through immersive language and cultural programming. Under the direct supervision of the Hub Centre Program Manager and the general supervision of the Superintendent of Academics, the successful candidate will support early learning programs by modeling and mentoring Anishinaabemowin and Anishinaabe cultural practices.
RESPONSIBILITES:
Use Anishinaabemowin throughout the Centre and in the assigned program rooms
Co-plan and deliver Anishinaabe cultural activities with assigned ECEs, aligned with Hub Centre programming expectations.
Model and mentor Anishinaabemowin to support educator and staff language acquisition through both structured lessons and daily use.
Incorporate the Seven Grandfather Teachings into programming.
Support indoor cultural activities and outdoor land-based learning.
Connect with community agencies e.g. Wiikwemkoong Lands Department, Wikwemikong Heritage Organization, Knowledge Keepers) to coordinate learning and advise on resource needs
Invite community Elders and Knowledge Keepers to be a part of the learning.
Collaborate with the Wiikwemkoong Anishinaabemowin Kinoomaagewin Department for resources.
Participate in all WBE professional development opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent.
Fluency in Anishinaabemowin is necessary.
Knowledge and appreciation of Anishinaabe culture, history and teachings
Indigenous Language Instructor Program qualifications are an asset.
Land-based learning skills are an asset.
Provide a cover letter, resume, and three (3) current work-related references.
