POSITION: Anishinaabemowin Specialist Instructor (Flexible Schedules – Full-time/Part-time)
SALARY: $33.34/hour
START DATE: September 2026
Anishinaabemowin Specialist Instructors work under the direct supervision of the school Principal, and the general supervision of the Superintendent of Academics. They are responsible for integrating Anishinaabemowin language and Anishinaabe worldviews into classroom instruction, supporting both students and teachers in language acquisition and cultural learning.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Use Anishinaabemowin throughout the day in the classroom.
Model and mentor Anishinaabemowin with the assigned classroom teacher to indirectly improve teacher acquisition of Anishinaabemowin.
Collaborate with classroom teachers, the Anishinaabemowin coach, and the Land-Based Learning Coach to integrate Anishinaabemowin, Anishinaabemowin, Anishinaabe Worldviews, culture, and traditional ways of knowing into all subject areas.
Design and implement assessments and evaluations in collaboration with classroom teachers
Invite community agencies and Knowledge Keepers to enhance learning.
Advise on ordering necessary resources for lessons (i.e., Anishinaabe medicines, cultural activity resources).
Collaborate with the Wiikwemkoong Anishinaabemowin Kinoomaagewin Department for resources.
Adapt established programming to meet student needs.
Instruct students using suitable methods to maintain interest and increase knowledge and understanding of the oral and written language
Ensure the educational well-being of the students during the period of instruction
Prepare instructional materials for classroom or student use
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Grade 12 Diploma (OSSD).
Fluency in Anishinaabemowin (oral and written) and knowledge of Anishinaabe culture
Land-based learning skills are an asset
Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
