POSITION: School Social Counsellor

SALARY: $39.49/hr

START DATE:  August 31, 2026

Under the direct supervision of the Principal and general supervision of the Superintendent of Academics.

RESPONSIBILITES:

 Providing crisis intervention and one-on-one support to students and their parents when requested or as they may occur.

 Providing resource navigation to mental health and/or community agencies for students and/or their families (i.e. Naandwechige-Gamig Health Centre, Nadmadwin Mental Health, Aasgaabwitwindwaa Binoojiinhik Wiin ni Gshkiwewziwaat and/or other service providers).

 Provide attendance counselling services for the school through a number of different means (home visits, working with community partners, communicating with parents).

 Maintaining appropriate and confidential records involving direct and indirect attendance consultations with students and their parents.

 Promote physical, emotional and social development of students.

 Work with staff in a multitude of areas as they relate to student health and well-being.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 Post-secondary diploma/degree in social services or related helping fields.

 Training in clinical interviewing and evidence-informed interventions with children.

 Experience providing various treatment modalities (CBT, Motivational Interviewing, DBT strategies, etc.) to children.

 Experience adapting treatment modalities to be culturally relevant and identity affirming.

 Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other professionals.

 Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a team player.

 Experience working in educational settings is an asset.
