POSITION: School Social Counsellor
SALARY: $39.49/hr
START DATE: August 31, 2026
Under the direct supervision of the Principal and general supervision of the Superintendent of Academics.
RESPONSIBILITES:
Providing crisis intervention and one-on-one support to students and their parents when requested or as they may occur.
Providing resource navigation to mental health and/or community agencies for students and/or their families (i.e. Naandwechige-Gamig Health Centre, Nadmadwin Mental Health, Aasgaabwitwindwaa Binoojiinhik Wiin ni Gshkiwewziwaat and/or other service providers).
Provide attendance counselling services for the school through a number of different means (home visits, working with community partners, communicating with parents).
Maintaining appropriate and confidential records involving direct and indirect attendance consultations with students and their parents.
Promote physical, emotional and social development of students.
Work with staff in a multitude of areas as they relate to student health and well-being.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Post-secondary diploma/degree in social services or related helping fields.
Training in clinical interviewing and evidence-informed interventions with children.
Experience providing various treatment modalities (CBT, Motivational Interviewing, DBT strategies, etc.) to children.
Experience adapting treatment modalities to be culturally relevant and identity affirming.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other professionals.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a team player.
Experience working in educational settings is an asset.
