Child and Youth Wellness Leaders

The Wiikwemkoong Child and Family Services department is seeking qualified individual to fill the positions of Child and Youth Wellness Leaders. Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory (WUT) Child and Family Services oversees and advocates for child and family matters by following the principals and ethics of Wiikwemkoong’s Gchi Naaknigewin, Wiikwemkoong’s Children’s Bill of Rights and Wiikwemkoong Community Standards. This will ensure the services are culturally appropriate to support the community’s children and families in alignment with Anishnaabe values and practices. The Children and Youth Wellness Leaders will report directly to their immediate Supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead and facilitate a wellness program, workshops and activities that engage children and youth by providing them with the tools and knowledge to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
• Build strong relationships with community members including children, youth, parents, Elders and other stakeholders to promote participation and support for wellness.
• Coordinate educational workshops on various wellness topics such as nutrition, physical activity, mental health, substance abuse prevention and social skills development.
• Complete referrals for children and youth dealing with personal challenges, offering guidance and support to help them overcome obstacles and to thrive.
• Advocate for the needs and rights of children and youth within the community ensuring their voices are heard and their well-being is prioritized.
• Develop and maintain accurate up-to-date and concise work files, stats and reports.
• Comply with Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory’s human resources, finance and other policies and procedures.
• Participate in ongoing training to stay current with best practices in prevention and wellness promotion.
• Other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS
• Social Services and or Child and Youth Worker diploma is preferred.
• 2 years’ work-related experience will be considered.
• Knowledge of Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory’s programs and services.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advocate for the children and youth needs.
• Excellent conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working with various office systems and proficient computer skills.
• Ability to understand and speak Anishnaabemowin is a definite asset.

Salary: $83,851 Grade 8, Step 1 Location: In-office Wiikwemkoong
