Position: On-Call Guard

Location: Wikwemikong Unceded Territory

Responsible to: Chief of Police, Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service

Hourly Rate: $29.43

 

The Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service is accepting applications from all suitable and qualified candidates to apply for the position of On-Call Guard/Matron.

 

Summary:  As a WTPS Detention Guard, you will be monitoring and safeguarding persons in custody, documenting prisoner movement/activities, as per WTPS policy guidelines.  Physical handling of prisoners is not a job requirement.  Any movement/transfer of prisoners will be conducted by the WTPS.

 

Key Duties/Responsibilities:
Hours are variable and at an on-call basis.
Observe and check prisoners frequently and regularly.
Monitor all prisoners to ensure their security and well-being.
Assist WTPS Officers when required to search prisoners. Training to be provided.
Record and report any damages or repairs to cells.
Conduct search of cells prior to occupation and when cells are vacated.
Maintain cell block security by ensuring cell doors are locked at all times.
Ensure that cell block keys are tagged and stored safely.
Ensure all personal effects removed from prisoners are properly secured.
Monitor fire safety and be fully conversant with fire orders.
 

Basic Requirements:
At a minimum, Guards must possess the following educational and training qualifications prior to commencement of guard duties, Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
Ability to maintain confidentiality a MUST.
Must possess a valid class G Ontario Driver License.
Be of good moral character, no criminal record and must pass background and investigation check. Must provide a signed WTPS Consent to Security Clearance Investigation Form.
Must have awareness of First Nation culture and traditions, conversant in the Anishinaabemowin language an asset.
Possess current First Aid/CPR Certificates. First Aid training is a condition of employment for Detention Guards and must be obtained by the candidate prior to hiring process.
Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Office.
Be physically able to perform the duties of the position, able to use both hands and occasionally manipulate/lift up to 20kg, able to bend at the waist and climb stairs without restrictions or the use of assistive devices.
Be prepared to take an Oath/Affirmation of Office and Secrecy.
