We are currently looking for a Counselling Team Lead to join our team of committed professionals. This full-time summer contract position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s John Island Camp location in Spanish, Ontario.
Under the leadership of the Program Manager and the Director of John Island Camp, the Counselling Team Lead is responsible for program planning and delivery to ensure participant satisfaction. The Counselling Team Lead oversees and supports counsellors. They are responsible for developing, implementing, coordinating and supporting programs to ensure a camper-oriented focus. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who is dynamic, able to work as part of a progressive team, enjoys working with children and who is capable of managing multiple tasks.

START DATE: June 25, 2025
LOCATION: Spanish, ON
RATE OF PAY: $700.00 per week

Major Responsibilities
Plan and oversee all camp programming including evening programs and themed days
Resolve campers’ concerns and situations and support counsellors through these concerns and situations
Build relationships and be a positive role model for all campers and staff members
Manage, train, evaluate and support Counsellors
Coordinate and schedule counsellors and participate in programming when required
Provide feedback and evaluations to counsellors
Adhere to the YMCA policies and procedures, including the Hiring Process Guidelines

Qualifications
College diploma or University degree in Outdoor Recreation, Business or related field considered an asset
Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience in a similar role
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in personal and or vocational counselling
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a senior camp staff position (such as Assistant Director, Outdoor Centre Coordinator, Lead Facilitator)
Valid G class driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience working with children (i.e. babysitting)
Excellent interpersonal skills
Solid knowledge of appropriate health and safety standards and code
National Lifeguard Certification (NLS) in good standing
Current Standard First Aid and CPR C
WHMIS Certification
Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
