Addictions Counsellor

Ngwaagan Recovery Centre Inc. is expanding services to the new healing lodge to provide treatment programming and community services related to addictions and healing from past trauma. The Addictions Counsellor shall carry out the duties, activities and assignments within the vision and mission, policies and procedures as outlined by Ngwaagan Recovery Centre Inc.

DUTIES:

• Work within a team-oriented approach in the delivery of services to clients, family members and community
• Processing applications for treatment and other programming/counselling services and Community Based programs
• Participate in organization’s team goals of ongoing accreditation processes
• Respond to telephone and in-person inquiries related to services and treatment program
• Data input and case documentation on a daily basis of contacts, concerns, discussions and recommendations
• Facilitate educational and group sessions relating to the position and the organization
• Support counselling through intake processes wit individuals and family members
• Develop, facilitate, assess and evaluate programming
• Prepare written reports, appropriate case documentation and participate in case conference reviews and participate in team meetings as required
• Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Degree in human services or Diploma in Addictions or related field and minimum two (2) years related experience in the field of addictions counselling
• Knowledge of Anishinaabe culture, language, traditions and history is an asset
• Knowledge of the services and programs at Ngwaagan Recovery Centre Inc.
• Education and experience working in the addictions field
• Demonstrate qualities of positive role modelling for the Anishinaabe community and adhere to a code of ethics
• Ability to conduct counsellor/client interviews/sessions, assessments, maintain confidentiality and prepare appropriate documentation as required
• Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills
• Ability to communicate well over the phone and in virtual interactions, and to document interactions accurately and appropriately 
• Must possess a valid Ontario Drivers License and be willing to provide a driver’s abstract
• A willingness to provide a satisfactory and recent CPIC-VSS
