POSITION: Anishinaabemowin Specialist Instructor
LOCATION: Wiikwemkoong Junior School (3 positions), Wiikwemkoong Pontiac School (5 positions)
SALARY: $26.03/hour

Under the direct supervision of the Principal, and the general supervision of the Yaasgaabwitaaget (Systems
Principal) and Kinoomaaewi Gimaa (Director of Education).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Use Anishinaabemowin throughout the day in the classroom.
 Assigned to support two teachers and their classes, each for half a day.
 Co-plan with the assigned classroom teacher Anishinaabe cultural activities. The classroom teacher will connect these cultural activities to Science, Social Science, and potentially Mathematics curriculum expectations.
 Model and mentor Anishinaabemowin with the assigned classroom teacher to indirectly improve
teacher acquisition of Anishinaabemowin.
 May be asked to connect with community agencies (Wiikwemkoong Lands Department,
Wiikwemkoong Heritage Organization, community Knowledge Keepers, etc) to coordinate learning
during some of these classes.
 Advise on ordering necessary resources for lessons (i.e. Anishinaabe medicines, cultural activity
resources).
 Invite community Elders and Knowledge Keepers to be a part of the learning.
 Collaborate with the Wiikwemkoong Anishinaabemowin Kinoomaagewin Department for resources.
 Collaborate with the Wiikwemkoong Binojihinh Gshkiwewziwin and Anishinaabemowin Coach for
support.

QUALIFICATIONS:
 Land-based learning skills are an asset.
 Minimum Grade 12 Diploma (OSSD).
 Knowledge and appreciation of Anishinaabek Culture, Traditions, Language, and History.
 Provide a cover letter, resume and 3 current work-related references.
 Provide current CPIC with Vulnerable Sector Screening upon offer of employment.
